What are composite fillings?
Dental resin fillings, also known as composite fillings, are a modern solution for treating tooth decay and restoring natural dental aesthetics. They are a popular choice for repairing tooth damage due to their natural color and durable properties.
Treatment procedure
After patient information and possibly local anesthesia, the tooth is isolated with a rubber dam, caries is removed and the cavity is prepared. The tooth surface is etched with 37% phosphoric acid, rinsed and dried, then a bonding agent is applied and light-cured.
Inserting the composite filling
The composite is applied in layers and each layer is light-cured. The filling is then contoured, the occlusion adjusted and polished. Fluoride is optionally applied. Finally, the patient receives care instructions and a follow-up appointment. This protocol ensures a successful and long-lasting composite filling.
