IDS 2025 Cologne - Professional insight into current developments in dentistry

From March 26 to 29, 2025, Cologne hosted the International Dental Show (IDS) the world's largest trade fair for dentistry. As a dental practice in Vienna, it was important for us to observe and professionally assess the latest developments and innovations in dental care on site.

Every two years, IDS provides a comprehensive overview of technical, organizational and material-related advances in dentistry. This year, the focus was on more efficient treatment processes, digital solutions for planning and implementation and aspects of sustainability in practice operations.

Observed developments in IDS 2025 Cologne

During our visit to the trade fair, we were able to take a closer look at various topics, including:

  • Digitally supported procedures for diagnosis and treatment planning
  • New approaches to the production of dental aids in the dental practice
  • Ergonomic optimizations in the design of work and treatment areas
  • Concepts for reducing material consumption and improving the reusability of components

These developments were evaluated from a professional perspective - with a view to their applicability in everyday practice and taking into account applicable legal and hygiene requirements.

Relevance for practice operations

The systems and materials presented at IDS are not automatically part of standard care and cannot be used immediately in every practice. Many of the solutions on show are still being tested or are dependent on technical requirements and the respective medical indication.

The possible integration of individual innovations is - as always - based on medical requirements, technical feasibility and the legal framework. The safety and quality of treatment are always at the forefront.

Conclusion

The visit to IDS 2025 provided professional training and orientation. The personal exchange with colleagues and experts as well as the opportunity to view and classify current developments directly on site provide a valuable basis for future decisions in practice.

We remain in continuous contact with professional associations, manufacturers and the Dental Association to ensure that all procedures and materials used in our practice comply with the latest scientific findings and applicable regulations.
